A Deutsches Reichssportabzeichen für Leibesübungen in Bronze by Wernstein Jena of Pforzheim. Instituted July 1, 1937, the bronze grade DRL Sports Badge was awarded to men and women between the ages of 18-32 who passed five parts of national fitness test within a 12-month period. It is constructed out of a die struck zinc base that has been bronze washed and chemically burnished. The finish has been absorbed by the zinc. The oval shaped obverse depicts a centrally placed “DRL” in Gothic stylized letters which is surrounded by an oak leaf wreath which is tied together at the bottom with a ribbon behind a swastika. The concave reverse is maker marked “D.R.G.M. 35269” and “Wernstein Jena” and correctly displays a; soldered-on block hinge, soldered-on rectangular wire catch and flat wire pin in tombak. It measures 1 ½ inches wide by 1 7/8 inches tall. A nice example.
