A M1937 Fliegerdolch by F.W. Holler of Solingen. The blade on this one has some fingerprint stain. The acid etched "F. W. Holler Solingen" maker mark is dark, crisp and beautifully executed! The thermometer is the 11 "tick" variation. Some of crossgrain remains. There is some age towards the maker mark. It has a perfect fit. The blue pebbled leather buffer pad remains intact. The generic steel based airplane gray plated scabbard has minor wear. It depicts good details throughout, with the random pebbling, oak leaves and acorns. It remains completely dent free and retains its throat retaining screw. It has nicely aged and patinaed with time. Holler chose not to produce their own fittings, rather they purchased their scabbards and fittings from various producers. The aluminum based eagle crossguard, steel ferrule and aluminum pommel all look good! The eagle has good detail to its head, feathers, wings and top side oak leaves and acorns. The early trylon grip has aged to a desirable deep orange over time, one tone darker to the obverse. The grip has some chipping to the upper pommel fit. The aluminum springy wire remains. Included is a well worn portepee frayed portepee, pull back the cord and you can see the yellow trylon under it testifying it's been there forever. A nice example all around!
