Here we have a M1937 2nd Model Luftwaffe Dagger (Fliegerdolch) by Horster of Solingen. The blade has some age and stain. The rare stamped maker mark is executed heavier to one side than the other. The blade on this one rates in at Exc/Exc+. The buffer pad is lost to time. he blade does not fully insert into the scabbard and stays about 1/2" from the throat seating on the inside of the guard. I suspect something has fallen into the throat keeping the blade from full insertion. It might easily be fixed but I really don't think it want to do a hysterotomy on the scabbard for the 1/2" more of insertion. The dent-free scabbard is steel based and nickel plated. It depicts nice detail throughout with the random pebbling, oak leaves and acorns. There is evidence of wear to the sides. The aluminum-alloy based burnished eagle crossguard has nice detail to the eagles head, feathers, wings and top side hand enhanced oak leaves and acorns. It's heavily worn with the worse being to the reverse. The steel ferrule and burnished pommel both look excellent. The whole thing has nicotine patina. The trylon grip has a wee chip to the upper reverse. It's one tone darker to the obverse as we often see. It retains its springy wire wrap. Included is a set of hangers that show wear. There is one spot to reverse that has worn the velvet away exposing the underlay.
