1st Model (1934/35) Airforce Dagger (Luftwaffe Borddolch) by E. & F. Hörster Solingen. The plated blade on this one is nice. The acid etched “E. & F. Hörster Solingen” maker mark is beautifully executed. The plating gives it a mirror like finish. The tip comes to a sharp point and the fit remains nice and tight. The blade rates an easy Exc++ with just minor age. The blue pebbled leather buffer pad remains in place. The scabbard is constructed out of a steel sheet metal base that has been covered in a blue textured Moroccan leather. The leather is in wonderful condition with a perfect seam. It shows just the odd pressure mark. The satin aluminum fittings look superb. The top fitting is jeweler engraved “R.M.”. All of the five screws remain intact. The chain consists of six top ringlets and has nine lowers, connected to a well working “OLC Ges. Gesch.” (Overhoff & Cie., Lüdenscheid) marked clip. The crossguard and pommel top are in wonderful condition with gilded sunwheel swas’. The grip is wood based and covered in a blue leatherette. It has light wear to the high marks. The triple aluminum wire wrap remains completely intact. This comes with a business card marked to Rudolf Miethig a well known Luftwaffe ace and 04/45 captured I assume the dagger was captured then as Rudolf passed in 1943? I don't know for sure and other than the card there is no provenance. Regardless it's a wonderful example!
