A Model 1933 Hitlerjugend Fahrtenmesser by RZM M7/32 – Rob. Müller of Merscheid-Solingen. Based on construction this piece can accurately be dated to c.1939-40. The blade on this one looks good. The stamped “RZM M7/32 Rob. Müller Sol.-Merscheid” maker mark is dark, crisp and beautifully executed. The crossgrain looks great as you shine it in the light. The tip comes to a perfect point and the fit remains nice and tight. The blade rates Exc++. It shows scratches, age grey and spotting throughout. The original black leather buffer pad continues to remain intact. The sheet metal based black painted scabbard looks excellent. It retains 98%+ of its original paint coverage and remains dent free. There is only minor spidering and wear. It has a single runner, which I am tending to believe is textbook specifically for this maker as two thirds of these that I have observed have been this way and have the same construction features. The folded over blackened leather strap retains all of its rivets and the snap continues to work well. The leather has been treated/re-blackened. The hilt is constructed out of a zinc base that has been nickel-silver plated. The plating remains in excellent condition, being 95%+ intact, with wear to the expected areas. The two black checkered grip plates are in near perfect condition and secured with two aluminum grip rivets. To the center obverse of the grip is a large HJ diamond with perfect enamel. An excellent example!
