Die Medaille zur Erinnerung an den 1. Oktober 1938. Instituted October 1, 1938, the Sudetenland medal was awarded to recognize the services of those who participated in the “reunification of the Sudeten German areas” within the German Reich and the occupation of Czechoslovakia in March 1939. It is constructed out of a die struck tombak base that has been bronze washed. The round shaped obverse depicts two unclothed men (one has a chain around his right wrist, the other is holding an NSDAP flag on a pole) that are standing on a pedestal with a German national eagle on it. The reverse reads: “1. Oktober 1938 Ein Volk Ein Reich Ein Führer” (October 1 1938 One People, One Empire, One Leader). To the top of the medal is a soldered-on loop and ring which holds approximately 3 inches of red, black and white folded rayon ribbon. To the back of the ribbon is a brass gilded pin hinge and catch assembly, which is secured with black thread. The medal measures 1 ¼ inches in diameter. The bronze wash and detail are great.
