Extremely RARE - Earliest era Model 1933 Hitlerjugend Fahrtenmesser by Chromolit (Arthur Wingen) of Solingen. I have only seen two HJ knives by Chromolit in my lifetime! Based on construction this piece can accurately be dated to 1933. The thin blade on this one looks great. The acid etched “Blut und Ehre!” motto remains nicely visible. The stamped “ch Solingen” maker mark is beautifully executed. The tip comes to a sharp point and the fit is nice and tight. The blade rates Exc++. It shows scratching throughout and the edge has been ever-so-slightly sharpened. The leather buffer pad is lost to time which is a typical characteristic of this blade style. The sheet metal based black enamel painted scabbard is in good condition. It holds half of its paint coverage and remains dent-free. Minor oxidization spotting. It has a very well-done hanger modification-There is no doubt in my mind that this was period modified. It has two 13mm wide runners-this can absolutely be considered a textbook feature. The brown scabbard leather is in wonderful condition. The cast iron based nickel-silver plated hilt retains 98% of its plating. The grip plates are the square diamond pattern Kautschuk type. In my opinion the Chromolit company purchased their grip plates from Anton Wingen, father or Artur Wingen. Yes, there is a crack to the base of the obverse grip plate, again this a textbook characteristic of these Kautschuk type grip plates. Both solid nickel-silver rivets remain tightly secured. The medium (24mm x 13mm) HJ diamond retains 90% of its enamel. 99.9% of guys don't appreciate how great this piece is. Not cheap and I'm happy to keep it in my personal collection!
