Canada, WWI - Private Peter Jamieson’s WWI Victory Medal. Service Number: 463309. Jamieson was born February 16, 1888, in Scotland. He moved to Vancouver, British Columbia. Enlisted at Vernon, British Columbia on July 30, 1915. Attestation Date: August 24, 1915. Jamieson served with “B” Company of the 47th Battalion Canadian Infantry Battalion, CEF as well as the 62nd "Overseas" Battalion, CEF. Jamieson died of his wounds received in action (likely at the Battle of the Ancre Heights) in the field in France on November 11, 1916 (#11 Can. Field Ambulance) at the age of 28 years old. Jamieson won the Trio: 1914-15 Star, Victory Medal and British War Medal. His wife received all of his possessions as well as a Memorial Plaque and Memorial Cross (as did his mother). The Victory Medal was issued to all those who had been awarded the 1914-15 Star. It is constructed out of a die stamped bronze base. The round shaped obverse features the winged, full-length, full-front, figure of “Victory” with her left arm extended and holding a palm branch in her right hand. The reverse reads: “The Great War For Civilization 1914-199”, surrounded by a laurel leaf wreath. To the top is a tapered barrel loop and ring holding a rainbow-colored ribbon. The rim is officially impressed reading: “463309 PTE P. Jamieson 47. CAN INF”. The award measures 39mm in diameter.
