United States, WWII - Army Staff Identification Badge. Instituted in 1933, this badge was intended to recognize outstanding performance rendered by Army personnel while assigned to the Army General Staff. It is constructed out of a multi-piece brass base that has been gilded and contains multi-colored enamel work. The vaulted obverse features the Great Seal of the United States on top of a black star with laurel leaves and berries to the inside arms. The concave reverse is marked “G-23” has two rivets and three pins. It measures 2 3/4 inches in diameter.
