United Kingdom, WWI - Named and Cased Binocular Prismatic No. 3 Mk II Army Field Binoculars by A. Kershaw & Son Ltd of Leeds. The binoculars are a two-piece z-body type. They have a brass housing, cover plates and objective lens cups. The housings feature a textured grip. The ocular eye piece cover is a rigid green type bakelite. The body bridge, diopter adjustment, ocular and objective lenses all work well. The plates are marked: “Binocular Prismatic No 3 Mk II Magnification 6 No18222” (facing left side), “Graticules ½° apart, and ½°, 1°, and 1 ½° high. A. Kershaw & Son Ltd. Leeds 1918” (facing right side) and named: “John Warburton” (front left side). It shows minor age throughout and rub marks to the sides. The glass lenses are free of crazing or chipping. The neck strap is worn and remains intact. The case is made of multiple pieces of rigid brown tanned leather that have been stitched together. The front buckle and prong are steel. The two side strap buttons are brass. The carry strap is removeable. It has a steel buckle. Most stress points are worn yet remain intact. The top features John Warburton’s initials: “J.W.” pressed in black. The interior is lined in black cotton. The interior front base has torn through. The top lid is maker marked in gold foil: “Negretti & Zambra Opticians 38-Holborn Viaduct London” and “G. Leadenhall St. C.3. & 122. Regent St”. The case measures 6 5/8 inches wide by 2 ¾ inches deep by 4 ½ inches tall.
