A 1st Model Luftwaffe Fliegerdolch by SMF (Solinger Metallwarenfabrik Stoecker & Co.) of Solingen. The blade on this one looks great. The etched “SMF Solingen” maker mark is nicely executed. The plating on this gives it a mirror like finish. The fit remains nice and tight and the tip comes to a nice point! The blade rates an Exc++/NM It has minor scuffs and wear but that's it. The original blue pebbled leather buffer pad looks to have been replaced by a blue felt one. The steel based blue pebbled, leather scabbard body looks good! It shows the odd scuff,some cracking and wear in the areas it would have rubbed in period use. 98%+ of the leather coverage remains intact. The silvered nickel scalloped scabbard fittings remain in nice condition. The fittings are tightly secured with all five original screws! The nickel chain has 14 lower and 9 upper ringlets that ends at a well working nickel clip. The hilt looks excellent! The four brass gilded sun wheel swastikas are just beautiful and best of all the backgrounds retain their silver backgrounds. So many times these are polished right out! The grip leather matches the scabbard quite nicely and shows some scuffs and wear. It shows period age toning. The three brass wire wrap remains tightly intact. It shows verdigris to the crevasses. The portepee is well worn with a broken cord and frays. A nice early and nickel piece.
