A lovely Hirschfanger! The 16 inch blade is a triple acid etched example. It is correctly stamped with an early 1930's- 1935 single oval Eickhorn maker mark. The etch is a bit faded and there is some age spotting. The etch has highly detailed panels depicting hunting scenes. The factory brown felt buffer is intact. The blade rates Exc+/Exc++. The scabbard has fine black leather with good coverage and some scuffs. I was tempted to apply some shoe wax to clean this up but I leaved that to your discretion. It has two decorative lines running the length of the scabbard on both sides. All of the stitching remains intact. Both undented matching brass fittings have scalloped edges. The staples are still intact. The leather has shurunk some as we often see on these leather based scabbards. The blade does not fully seat to the guard leaving about 1/4" gap. The clamshell has good detail with hunting dogs taking down a stag. The crossguard has a decorative dog holding a hoof. The pommel ends with a decorative oak leaf motif. The grip is stag with 3 matching pinned brass acorns with oakleaves.
