A “Deutscher Volkssturm Wehrmacht” Ärmelbinde. These were worn by members of the “National Militia” that was established in October 1944 as a last-ditch effort regarding the outcome of the war. It is constructed out of a cotton base and has been dyed red, black and white. The rectangular shaped obverse features, in white: “Deutscher Volkssturm Wehrmacht”, with two white national eagles (with outstretched wings clutching a wreathed swastika) one to either side. This all lies on a black backing that has a horizontal white and black line above and below it and has a surrounding red border. The top and bottom edges have been folded over and stitched together with red/white stitching. The back has been stitched to size. Typical age soilage. It measures approx. 7 1/2 inches wide by 2 1/2 inches tall.
