United Kingdom, Commonwealth, WWII - The Atlantic Star. Instituted May 1945, the Atlantic Star was awarded to those who took part in 180 days operational service afloat or 60 days of operational flying in the Battle of the Atlantic. It is constructed out of a die struck yellow copper zinc alloy base that has been bronze plated. The obverse features the Royal Cypher “GRI VI”, underneath a royal crown surrounded by “The Atlantic Star”, on a six-pointed star. The reverse is plain. The top has an integral eyelet and ring which holds 6 inches of blue, white and green. The award measures 1 ½ inches wide by 1 ¾ inches tall.
