Private purchase Hunting knife is a mid Period example that can be accurately dated to the 1935-1940 timeframe by the maker mark. It appears in the Eickhorn catalogue as model 1720 with a flat crossguard It has a solid fit and perfect tip! The blade has some scuffs and rates Exc+, There is age gray and a few dark spots. It has been cleaned. The leather sheath shows age and all the stitching remains. The top strap looks to have been repaired with the addition of a SA style short hanger to the top that's been rivetted on. Likely a modern add on. The nonmagnetic nickel crossguard is a simple oval shape. The guard is pierced with the blade tang and shaped to the grip plates. The horn grip plates are in wonderful condition! They are tightly secured with 3 steel rivets. No cracks, chips or splits. As is typical with these, the scabbard has shrunk somewhat over the past 80 years and the blade does not fully insert. It goes in part way leaving 6" out of the sheath. When I got this it was in much further but I leave it as is. I will not force this down further. This note came in here recently for a GDC associate: However, the metal buckle on your sheath is OVAL and the Carl Eickhorn buckle is square with a roller. You also note the "sheath has shrunk" and the knife sticks out 6 Inches which is probably another red flag telling me the sheath is not correct. 6 inches of shrinkage is not what I would expect to find.
