A M1938 - 2nd Model Kriegsmarine Dolch für Offiziere. Really interesting dagger here. A seldom seen maker mark on this one! The acid etched sailing ship blade on this one looks excellent! Both panels are dark and crisp, with some age. The stamped maker mark is beautifully executed! The tip comes to a perfect point. The blade on this one rates an Exc+. It has minor age grey/spotting throughout but that's it. The felt buffer pad continues to remain intact. The brass based and gold gilded hammered scabbard is very interesting to me. It looks to me like the dent-free scabbard has been made up in the period by a craftsman out of the factory. It has a second reef knot band added. the band is consistent with the 1919 removable band featured on pg 185 of Wittmann's reference. the very bottom has a drilled drain hole. The scabbard body seems to have been modified at the same time. There is some obvious hand-work here. The throat is friction fit. The pommel is a period upgrade, pg 229. The brass based and gold gilded hilt and proud Kreigsmarine eagle pommel are both beautifully detailed! The wood based, white celluloid covered grip looks wonderful! No cracks, chips or splits. The double twisted brass wire wrap remains tightly intact! An interesting example by a rare maker.
