Model 1933 Sturmabteilung Dienstdolch by Carl Tillmanns Söhne LUX of Solingen. While McSarr rates this maker as a 7 out of 10 for rarity, I would say it is a 10 out of 10. In all my years of doing this I’ve only ever owned one other SA by this maker! The blade on this one is looks great. The acid etched “Alles fur Deutschland” motto and “Carl Tillmanns Söhne LUX Solingen” maker mark are both dark, crisp and beautifully executed. The crossgrain is gorgeous and easily visible as you shine it in the light. The fit is nice and tight and the tip comes to a perfect point. The blade rates an Exc++/NM. There are scratches, runner marks and spotting throughout. The sheet metal based brown anodized scabbard looks good. It has oxidization spotting throughout. It remains dent free and some of the original factory lacquer reamins. The solid nickel-silver scabbard fittings are nicely aged with nice patina. The ball has been hit and shows a split. All four screws are intact. The scabbard / crossguard fit is absolutely perfect and closes with a snap. The reverse of the lower crossguard is Gau stamped “P” (Pommern). The brown hardwood grip looks great. It shows bumps and bruises and three 1mm square chips. The solid nickel eagle is beautifully detailed and has a perfect fit. The SA roundel is nicely patinaed, also has a perfect fit and retains 97%+ of its enamel. I don’t know why but there is just something about this one that I really like…
