United Sates, Vietnam Era – Joint Chiefs of Staff Identification Badge by N.S. Meyer of New York. Instituted in February 1963, The Office of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Identification Badge is a military badge presented to the members of the Joint Chiefs of Staff upon appointment to position as either a Service Head, Vice Chairman, or Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. It is a multi-piece construction with a gilded brass and a burnished sterling silver base that contains multi-colored enamel work. The round shaped obverse features a centrally placed shield of the United States on top of two upward pointing swords surrounded by a flowing ribbon that reads: “Joint” (top) and “Chiefs of Staff” (bottom), which is all surrounded by an olive branch wreath that has crossed ribbons to the top, bottom and sides. The full-back reverse has four rivets, is maker marked to the center: “N.S. Meyer New York” above a shield and a 22M (all raised), reads “Sterling” to the base and has three push pins and keepers. It measures 2 1/8 inches in wide by 2 ¼ inches tall.
