Canada, Canadian Forces - Gulf and Kuwait Medal. Instituted August 2, 1990, this was awarded to those who had served for 30 consecutive days between August 2, 1990, and June 27, 1991, in the region of the Persian Gulf, as a part of the operation to liberate Kuwait from the invading Iraqi forces. It is constructed out of a die stamped cupro-nickel base that has been silver plated. The obverse features a crowned effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, facing right, circumscribed with the legend: “Elizabeth II dei Gratia Regina Canada”, with “Canada” to the bottom. The reverse reads: “The Gulf and Kuwait 1990-1991 Le Golfe et Kuwait” within a laurel wreath, with a maple leaf centered at the bottom. To the top is a bar loop which holds 4 inches of light blue, scarlet, dark blue and sand colored ribbon. The reverse of the ribbon hold a bar and well working pin assembly. It measures 1 7/16 inches wide.
