India, WWII - India Service Medal 1939-45. Instituted June 6, 1946, the India Service Medal 1939-1945 was awarded to Indian Forces, including Reserve, State and Women’s forces, for at least three years of non-operational service in India between September 3, 1939, and September 2, 1945. It is constructed out of a die stamped cupro-nickel base that has been silver plated. The round shaped obverse features the crowned, facing left, effigy of King George VI surrounded by: “GEORGIVS VI D:G:BR:OMN:REX F:D:IND:IMP.” The reverse shows the map of India, underneath “India” and above “1939-45”. To the top is a single toe claw mount, with a straight non-swivel suspender, that holds 5 3/4 inches of dark and light blue ribbon. The rim is unmarked. The award measures 36mm in diameter.
