A Nationalsozialistisches Fliegerkorps Erinnerungsplakette 1939 im Etui. Awarded for the June 30 - July 2, 1939 gliding competition in Dusseldorf. It is constructed out of a die stamped zinc base that has been gold gilded. The round shaped obverse features an off-centered NSFK flag with an NSFK emblem, which features; the Greek god ‘Icarus' behind a mobile swastika (to his legs) below an arched “NSFK”, in front of a scene in Dusseldorf and flanked by: “30.3” (left) and “2.7.1939” (right) and surrounded by “Reichswettkampf des NS-Fliegerkorps Dusseldorf” in gothic style script. The reverse features a scene of soilders running in a field below a glider plane. The medallion measures 3 1/4 inches in diameter. The gold wash has mostly been absorbed by the zinc, 10% remains. The medallion comes housed in its appropriate issue case. A typical wood and pressed covered in a simulated black leather. The interior lid is pearl velvet behind “Nationalsozialistisches Fliegerkorps Der Korpsführer” in gold foil. The lid can fold down which allows a place for the award document. The base is blue felt and has a recess for the table medal with a string. The hinge and press button work well. It measures: 4 3/4 x 4 3/4 x 11/16. A multitude of variations to collect!
