Ordensschnalle eines für und Soldaten der Freie Stadt Danziger. Instituted August 31, 1939, by Danzig Gauleiter Albert Forster, the Danzig Cross was awarded to those who contributed to building up the Nazi Party in the free city of Danzig. The obverse features from left to right: a 2nd Class Iron Cross 1939 and a 2nd Class Danzig Cross. Each award is attached to a medal bar and its appropriate rayon ribbon. The reverse of the Danzig Cross features two rivets and is designer marked: “BvA” (Benno von Arent) and maker marked: “Hülse Berlin”, both are embossed. The ribbon bar has a plated steel plate that is covered in a piece of red wool and a pin, hinge and catch assembly. Only 253 2nd Class Danzig Crosses were awarded, making this an incredibly rare and desirable piece.
