Erinnerungsplakette an die Fertigstellung der Reichskanzlei 1938. The New Reich Chancellery in Berlin was designed primarily by Albert Speer and due to his resourcefulness and imagination, the huge building and custom made interior furnishings, marble galleries and floors, custom loomed carpets, wall decorations and so on, were completed in the remarkably short time span of one year. To commemorate the hard work, long hours, and sacrifice, the workers were each presented with a plaque. The plaque design was by the famous sculptor Arno Breker. It is made out of a cast iron base (the same material that was used for the Chancellery) that has been blackened. The obverse features the left facing profile the Führer with “A. Becker” to his lower neck, a large Reich’s Chancellery eagle and the inscription: “Zur Erinnerung an die Fertigstellung der Reichskanzlei erstanden vom März 1938 bis heute - den Mitarbeitern gewidmet Berlin den 9. Januar 1939” (In remembrance of the completion of the Reich Chancellery arising from March 1938 until today. Dedicated to the co-workers. Berlin 9. January 1939). The hollow back reverse features two foundry markings and a mounting wire loop. It measures 5 3/8 inches wide by 10 ½ inches tall. It has some surface scratches to the bust and others that are only visible at certain angles. Reich Chancellery award plaques does not come up for sale on the market very often, very few of these award plaques have survived to this day. A rare and choice piece!
