United States Air Force Distinguished Service Medal by LIGI - His Lordship Products, Inc. of New York, New York. Instituted July 6, 1960, the Air Force Distinguished Service Medal was awarded to airmen and guardians to recognize distinguished and exceptionally meritorious service to the United States while serving in a duty or position of great responsibility. It is constructed out of a die struck bronze base that has been bronze washed and contains white and blue translucent enamel work. The obverse features a sun, with a blue center, and white five-pointed stars within each sun-ray. The reverse is plain. To the top is an integral loop and ring holding a decorative bar. The bar holds the yellow, blue and white ribbon. The reverse of the ribbon features a rectangular bar, which is maker marked: “LIGI”, and holds a soldered-on pin, hinge and catch assembly. The cross measures 2 1/8 inches in diameter.
