United States, WWI - Army of Occupation of Germany Medal. Instituted November 21, 1941, the medal was awarded for service in Germany or Austria-Hungary between November 12, 1918 and July 11, 1923. It is constructed out of a die stamped bronze base. The obverse features the left facing profile of General John J. Persching, underneath four arching stars, with “General John J. Persching” to his left and a laurel leaf wreath surrounding “1918 1924” behind an upright broad sword. The reverse depicts a large American eagle, with outspread wings, perched on the Ehrenbreitstein Fortress, surrounded by “U.S. Army Occupation of Germany” and three stars. To the top is a soldered-on loop and ring which holds a black, white, red and blue ribbon. There is a pin to the reverse of the ribbon. It measures 1 ¼ inches in diameter.
