SS-Hauptsturmführer (SS Nr. 213 399) Karl Müller’s M36 Type II - Schutzstaffel Kettendolch für Offiziere. The blade on this one loos excellent. The crisp acid etched “Meine Ehre heißt Treue” motto is beautifully executed. The crossgrain is easily visible all the way from the hilt to tip. The tip comes to a perfect point and it continues to hold a nice and tight fit. There is no maker mark and this is exactly how they were issued from the factory. The blade rates Exc++/NM. There is minor age grey and spotting throughout along with the common surface scratches/runner marks. The steel based black painted scabbard body on this one looks great. The scabbard throat is personalized reading: “Karl Müller” (which appears to have scratches over it in an attempt to remove it) to the top and “SS Nr. 213 399” to the bottom. It shows the common age spidering and hits from the chain yet continues to remain completely dent free. It continues to hold 95%+ paint coverage. The solid nickel-silver scabbard fittings look excellent. The lower fitting has a small bump on it. The ball has a bump to its very bottom and all five screws remain intact. The chain is the most desirable type being the early Type II variation that is solid nickel-silver with black burnished backgrounds. The chain links show wonderful detail to the skulls and SS runes. The correct first upper link reverse is clearly “SS” proof marked. The wootans-knot clip continues to work well. The nickel-silver based crossguards are in excellent shape. There is a small patina difference, yet an excellent fit. The black hardwood grip is in great condition. It has some flake chips to the obverse top. It looks as though it has a portepee tied to the top at some point. The grip to crossguard fits are perfect. The solid nickel-silver eagle is beautifully detailed and has a perfect fit. The SS roundel retains 99%+ of its enamel and also has a perfect fit. Overall, this is a very desirable piece.

Müller, Karl was awarded to the rank of SS-Hauptsturmführer on April 1, 1942. He was born in March 2, 1916 in Arnswalde. His NSDAP number was “5 175 655” and his SS Number: “213 399” He was part of the Chef,5/ Kradschützen-Bataillon 2. in February 1943 and in July 1944 he attended the Braunschweig SS Junker School.
