United Kingdom, Commonwealth, WWII - Unissued the 1939-1945 Star in packet. Instituted July 8, 1943, the 1939-1945 Star was awarded for 180 days of operational service or 60 days of operational flying. It is constructed out of a die struck yellow copper zinc alloy base that has been bronze plated. The obverse features the Royal Cypher “GRI VI”, underneath a royal crown surrounded by “The 1939-1945 Star”, on a six-pointed star. The reverse is plain. The top has an integral eyelet and ring which holds 5 inches of navy blue, air force red and air force blue ribbon. The award measures 1 ½ inches wide by 1 ¾ inches tall. It comes housed in its original issue lacquered cellophane packet. It measures 2 inches wide by 3 1/2 inches tall.
