United States - World War II Victory Medal – First Issue. Instituted July 6, 1945, the Victory Medal was awarded for service between December 7, 1941, and December 31, 1946. It is constructed out of a die stamped bronze base. The round shaped obverse features a figure of Liberation standing full length with head turned to dexter looking to the dawn of a new day, right foot resting on a war god’s helmet with the hilt of a broken sword in the right hand and the broken blade in the left hand, flanked by the inscription “WORLD WAR II”. The reverse has a centrally placed palm branch and is inscribed with the Four Freedoms: “Freedom from Fear and Want” and “Freedom of Speech and Religion” surrounded by “United States of America 1941 1945”. To the top is a pressed ball loop and ring which holds 3 inches of folded and stitched together muti-colored ribbon. The reverse has an unmarked (early) stitched on brass bar and a well working pin, hinge and catch assembly. The medal measures 1 3/8 inches in diameter.
