United States - Afghanistan Campaign Medal

Instituted November 29, 2004, by President George W. Bush, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal is awarded to any member of the United States military who has performed duty within the borders of Afghanistan (or its airspace) for a period of thirty consecutive days or sixty non-consecutive days. It is constructed out of a die struck bronze base that has been chemically blackened. The round shaped obverse features the map of Afghanistan, above a range of mountains surrounded by “Afghanistan Campaign”. The reverse displays the left facing head of an eagle, on top of a demi-sun, above “For Service in Afghanistan” surrounded by a wreath. The top features a ball loop holding a ring and multi-colored ribbon. There is a brass plate marked “G27” and pin, hinge catch assembly to the back of the multi-colored ribbon. It measures 1 3/8 inches in diameter.
