United States - Iraq Campaign Medal. Instituted November 29, 2004, The Iraq Campaign medal was awarded to members of the Armed Forces who performed duty within the borders of Iraq (or its territorial waters) for a period of thirty consecutive days or sixty non-consecutive days. It is constructed out of a die stamped bronze base. The round shaped obverse depicts a north-oriented relief of the map of Iraq, surmounted by two lines representing the Tigris and Euphrates rivers throughout, superimposed over a palm wreath, underneath an arched "IRAQ CAMPAIGN.". The reverse, the Statue of Freedom surmounts a sunburst, encircled by two scimitars pointing down with the blades crossing at the tips. Below is the inscription "FOR SERVICE IN IRAQ." To the top is an integral ball loop and ring which holds 4 inches of multi-colored ribbon. The reverse has a brass bar, marked "G-23", and has a well working pin, hinge and catch assembly. The medal measures 1 1/4 inches in diameter.
