Médaille commémorative de la guerre 1914–1918. Instituted June 23, 1920, the Commemorative War Medal was awarded to soldiers, sailors and civilians who met certain requirements and who served between August 2, 1914 and November 11, 1918. It is constructed out of a die stamped bronze base. The round shaped obverse feature the effigy of a youthful Minerva goddess wearing an Adrian's helmet crowned with laurel leaves, grasping the blade of a broad sword in her left hand, underneath oak leaves and laurel leaves. The reverse reads: “Grande Guerre 1914 - 1918” surrounded by “Republique Francis” (which is on top of a laurel leaf and berry background),below that same leafed top. To the top is an integral rectangular ribbon loop which holds 4 inches of white and red ribbon. To the reverse top are two stitched on black wire hooks. It measures 1 1/4 inches in diameter.
