1957 Version – 2nd Class Spange

Federal Republic of Germany - 1957 Version 2nd Class Spange to the Iron Cross (Spange zum Eisernen Kreuz des Weltkrieges 1914/18). In 1957 the Federal Republic of Germany permitted qualifying veterans to wear the new re-designed 1957 version award in Bundeswehr uniform, due to the Ordengesetz. It is constructed out of a die struck alloy base that has been silver washed and black painted. The obverse features a centrally placed 1957 Version Iron Cross above a “1939” bar (19 left, 39 right). The full back reverse has two soldered on flatwire prongs. The award measures 1 3/16 inches wide and ¼ of an inch tall. It is attached to a 4 7/8 inch long ribbon.
