Early Clamshell Feldjager Police Bayonet

Here's a rare example. We rarely find these any more. Even in the period few survived in this original form. 99.9% were sent back to the Armorer for shortening and removal of the clamshell in accordance with regulations. See Wheeler's Bayonet reference. The full length 17" plated blade has just a few dots of age and a bit of darkening toward the tip. The blade rates Exc++. The brass based hilt is in good shape showing just light wear and nice patina. The grip plates are damage free just showing light wear, 100% of the plating remain intact with no wear to the brass base. The obverse plate has had a Prussian/Third Reich emblem pinned to it. The plates are retained by two dressed tombac rivets. Best of all the clam shell remains intact! Scabbard shell shows bumps from where the runners have been pushing against it for the past 75 years. It has the two trim lines which run the length of the edges. The stitching is all intact. The shell is fitted with, matching patinaed, undented nickel plated scabbard mounts. These have scalloped edges and show light wear. They are held by staples in the usual manner. Included is a portepee that has been there forever.
