Sturmabteilung Ehrendolch mit Präsentation Widmung by Carl Eickhorn of Solingen. This piece was specially made by the request of Oberländer, from the Carl Eickhorn factory, for presentation to Weiß in honor of his loyal cooperation and work. While no one can say with absolute certainty, it is likely the following individuals are: Prof. Theodor Oberländer Leader of the BDO (Bund Deutscher Osten) and VdA (Volksbundes für das Deutschtum im Ausland) and Obergruppenführer Wilhelm Weiß. Both were some of the earliest members of the NSDAP and both were involved in the Beer Hall Putsch. Nevertheless further research would be required. This piece was originally an SA Röhm Honor Dagger that was factory ground and then etched with the special honorary inscription. The blade reads, in Sütterlin script: “Meinem lieben Kameraden Weiß für treue Mitarbeit. Oberländer.” This roughly translates: “To my dear comrade Weiß for loyal cooperation. Oberländer.” It has a nice motto and small double oval serrated tail maker mark. Some crossgrain remains and the tip comes to a sharp point. The blade rates Exc/Exc+. It has been sharpened, yet still measures above the 220mm requirement, it also shows runner marks, minor spotting and scratches throughout. The blade to crossguard fit is perfect. The steel based brown anodized scabbard looks great. The body holds a nicely toned brown finish. It has two of the slightest pressure marks to the obverse, yet are hardly noticeable. The scabbard fittings are solid nickel-silver based. They have the odd bumps throughout. The ball has a bruise to its very base. Four scabbard screws remain intact, they show evidence of being turned. The scabbard to crossguard fit is perfect. The crossguard is bench marked “1”. This piece is not gau stamped, which further indicates it was presented and not issued. The crossguard / grip fits are perfect. Wow did I forget to mention how awesome this grip is… The Tiger Striped grip provides wonderful dark and light contrasting colors. Clearly a choice piece of wood. It has a hairline crack to both the front and back along with some chip flakes to the reverse base. The solid nickel eagle has excellent detail and a perfect fit. The SA roundel retains 99% of its enamel and also has a perfect fit. An honorary presentation inscription and one of the best grips I’ve ever owned. This piece is truly one-of-a-kind!
