I love this pattern officer sword. The panther-head sword looks great and incorporates all the best features of the period, great quality, multi faceted dark blue/green eyes set into a fierce animal and an iconic early political style eagle. The 31" long plated blade rates Exc++. There are a few age marks toward to lower reverse but that's it! No sharpening or nail catchers and a perfect tip. The blade is stamped with the 1935-1941 Eickhorn maker mark and retains it's factory buffer. This pattern is illustrated in Angolia's reference pg 79 and known as Model 1710. The black enamel painted scabbard is dent-free. It has excellent paint with evidence of wear. The paint is better than 99%. This hilt is polished aluminum with burnished backgrounds and the hilt is hand chiseled expertly covering the tang. The grip is black celluloid and is in perfect shape without chips or cracks. It is wrapped with triple brass wire that really stands out against the black celluloid. The original SS Officer portepee remains. One strap is torn from the stem. I debated gluing it back into the stem but as always I try to disclose any issues. You can do this yourself in a few minutes. I only get a couple of these early SS officer sword a year. This is a beauty!!
