This is a rare and early example of a British William IV 1822 Pattern Infantry Officer’s Sword from the short reign of King William IV (1830-1837). It comprises a distinctive Gothic hilt with fold down guard and a oval cartouche containing King William IV Royal Cyper. The grip of fish-skin wrapped with brass twist-wire. The blade features an etched panel. The blade is of pipe back form and suffers some age stain. The sword is complete with its original leather scabbard with gilt brass fittings, twin suspension rings and an ornate frog stud. The leather is in good condition, with age appropriate wear and marks. The stitching is intact. The sword sheathes and draws smoothly.
