Silver plated generic “A” pommel, crossguard and ferrule remain in excellent condition. The grip of this example is a fine off-white color plaster filled type, but really has great eye appeal. The scabbard is one of the generic varieties. This scabbard has deeply toned silvering and appears to be in perfect mint condition beneath the patination. The bands have outstanding detail, and the thinner throat is retained by a single flathead screw. It is interesting to note that there is a silhouette of the crossguard left on the upper scabbard face. This is caused by the crossguard being in place, preventing the air from oxidizing as quickly under the crossguard as around it. Wrapped about the grip is a fine mint 42cm aluminum portepee. The cord is perfect throughout this portepee with fine slide stem and lower ball. The blade, though, is where it is on this piece. It’s an artificially etched example, which is done in the pattern of "small roses" in fine condition throughout, with no flaws or problems. The artificial Damascus was known as the "poor man's Damascus", as it certainly was priced a lot cheaper than a true Damascus blade, but gave a fine, dramatic effect to the piece. The reverse ricasso is tamped horizontally, “WMW/Waffen”. Complete with original leather blade buffer. A wonderful original example of seldom encountered extra cost option from a known manufacturer.
