Here we have a M1937 2nd Model Luftwaffe Dagger (Fliegerdolch) likely purchased through a uniform shop. The unmarked blade on this example is in excellent shape, just no excuses here it rates NM! The crossgrain is stunning, the tip is perfect and the fit is nice and tight! No damage what-so-ever. The scabbard is an airplane grey example, it remains beautifully detailed with the oak leaves and acorns, it has some small hits to the lower body. The top scabbard band is cracked to the backside. It's firm on there and will be fine of you don't mess with it. Peek between the bands to the right side and you will see a Jeweler engraved personalization, "Rudorffer". The original owner's last name. Now number 7 of the Luftwaffe's top aces was Erich Rudorffer. Don't go googling him as you will be all day!! Ok, so there is no way to 100% link this dagger back to him so I'm not going to say this was his, all I can say is it very well could be. I didn't even know it was personalized till I went to picture this and cleaned this area!! So skeptics be gone! Perhaps an opportunity to research here? The crossguard and pommel are beautifully detailed and remain in excellent condition! The celluloid covered plaster based grip is in excellent shape. No cracks or chips. Ok so this one has been hanging around here for months, all I remember is that the guy sending it to me was a "polisher" and shined this up bright. Given time this will dull down.
