SS Honour Ring to Ludwig

SS-Ehrenring der Ludwig. The SS Honor Ring was a personal gift bestowed by Himmler intended as “reminder at all times to be willing to risk the life of ourselves for the life of the whole” and would become one of the highest honors bestowed upon a man of the elite SS. The SS honor ring was designed by Karl Maria Wiligut and produced solely by master gold/silversmiths Otto & Karolina Gahr of Munich. This ring is a size 10.75 and is dated April 20 30th 1938. The exterior displays a Totenkopf, sig rune, hagal rune swastika and a double SS and bind rune. Interior exhibits a textbook inscription, engraved nicely into the ring. It is engraved “S lb. (Seinen Lieben – With Respect and Honor) Ludwig 20.4.38. H. Himmler”. The skull is affixed directly above a nice seam of the ring indicating the ring was sized before it was welded closed. Exactly what we want to see on these pieces. This example is well worn. A desirable piece. Included with the ring is a COA by Don Boyle. Ok , so many are interested in who this guy was. I approached Ross Kelbaugh of Historic Graphics & Research Service and this was his response:

  • "There are two SS officers with this surname "Ludwig" that received a TKRing in 1938. There also could be others who didn't turn up in the SS-Dienstalterslistes which are incomplete for lower officer ranks starting in 1942. In 1937 the TKring recipients was expanded to all SS members, including NCO's and enlisted, who had the GPB so they could have received a 1938 ring. This is the evidently the reason each of these Ludwig's got the TK ring."
  • Ok, so there you have it. This well be very reseachable, or not. We only need to wait ot the Archive to reopen. Regardless it's a rare original with Don's COA.
