Cased British Empire Exhibition Medallion 1925

The British Empire Exhibition was a colonial exhibition held at Wembley Park, Wembley, Middlesex in 1924 and 1925, running from April 23, 1924 to October 31, 1925. It is constructed out of a die stamped bronze base. The obverse reads: “GEORGIVS V BRITT: OMN: REX ET IND: IMP” and is arched above the left facing portrait of King George V, with a small “B.M.” (Bertram Mackenna) to the shoulder. The reverse reads: “British Empire Exhibition 1925” that is arched above; a wheel hoe, a man holding a sledge hammer, a woman holding a model home and a woman bent over holding a sheaf of wheat. There is also a small “PM” (Percy Metcalfe) to the left side. The medallion measures 51mm in diameter. It is housed in its appropriate red leatherette issue case. The inside string is lost to time. Minor scuffs and fading. The pushbutton and hinge continue to work well. A nice example!
