THE Textbook Example - Numbered Full Röhm SS Honor Dagger

THE Textbook Example of a Numbered Model 1934 - Schutzstaffel Ehrendolch by Carl Eickhorn of Solingen. This exact example is featured on page 69 of “Exploring The Dress Daggers and Swords of the German SS” by Tom Whittmann. This piece belonged to SS-Standartenführer Helmut Shulz. Shulz was the recipient of the SS Degen, Honor Ring and SA Sports Award and was a contributor to the Lebensborn Program. E. Röhm Honour Daggers were granted to members of the SS and SA who either had interrupted service since December 31st 1931 or those who transferred from the Hitler Youth prior to that time (February 22 1934 - II Order Nr. 2869). Ownership would require a certificate of authorization. 9900 were allocated for eligible members of the SS. After the Night of the Long Knives, Ernst Röhm was declared a “traitor” and removal of the inscription was mandated (July 4th 1934 - II Daily Record Nr. 7566). Furthermore, this piece is numbered, per orders in April 12 1934. To have the full inscription was against Hitler’s command, making this dagger an incredibly rare and desirable on its own accord. Then add in that it is numbered, attributed to an SS-Standartenführer and have it featured in a textbook makes it one of a kind!

The blade on this one looks great! The acid etched “In herzlicher kameradschaft Ernst Röhm” inscription (in its entirety), “Meine Ehere Heißt Treue” motto and smooth tail “Carl Eickhorn, Solingen” maker mark are all nicely executed! The crossgrain is looks great as you shine it against the light. The tip comes to a perfect point and the fit is nice and tight, just as you would expect. The blade rates an Exc++. It shows surface scratches, spotting, age grey and runner rest marks throughout. The steel based, black anodized scabbard looks great! It only has the slightest bump to the obverse and oxidization spotting throughout. It has a nice and dark finish. The scalloped solid nickel-silver scabbard fittings are in excellent condition. The ball has the odd pressure mark, yet retains a nice round profile. All four screws remain intact. The scabbard to crossguard fit is perfect and closes with a snap! The solid nickel-silver crossguards match the scabbard fittings perfectly. The reverse of the lower cross guard is numbered “3798”. The black hardwood grip shows several pressure marks, cracks and chip flakes throughout. The solid nickel silver eagle retains beautiful detail and has a perfect fit. The SS runes retains 96%+ of its enamel and has perfect fit. For the guy who wants “Textbook”.
