This is the exact badge featured on pages 30 and 31 of “Combat Badges of the Third Reich Volume 2 Luftwaffe” by Stephen Thomas Previtera. A J2 - Flugzeugführer und Beobachterabzeichen by C. E. Juncker of Berlin. The Pilot / Observer badge was to be awarded to personnel who qualified as both a pilot and observer. It is a two-piece die struck tombak/nickel silver construction that has been silver washed and gold gilded. The obverse features a silvered centrally placed massive swooping Luftwaffe eagle with outstretched wings clutching a mobile swastika in its talons. The eagle is the attached, at the wings, to a gilded gold half laurel leaf and berry / half oak leaf and acorn wreath that is tied together at the bottom. The reverse correctly displays the soldered on tombak barrel hinge, soldered on tombak round wire catch, nickel-silver round wire pin and two tombak rivets. The obverse displays beautiful details throughout the eagle and wreath. There is a small crack to the second leaf on the left. The frosting and gilding are great! It measures 2 1/2 inches wide by 2 1/16 inches tall. Need some more details just check out the book!
