This is a late 1883 patterned WWII Imperial Japanese Naval officer dirk. This example is of wartime construction with machine made 8.25" blade as measured from the crossguard. These late war examples have no Habaki or lock mechanism. The blade shows spotting which I have NOT tried to clean. The crossguard is polished brass. The grip is double brass wire wrapped over imitation, (plastic)ray skin. All grip wire and fittings to include the brass cherry blossom on either side are intact and quite nice! The saya (scabbard) is leather covered wood with a decorative seam down the reverse. Both fittings have nice detail.
