Here we have a French Mle. 1866 Chassepot Sword Bayonet! It was manufactured for the French 11mm 1866 Chassepot Rife. The 22 ½ inch, yatagan, single fullered blade on this one has age. It shows a stamp right next to the guard to reverse and the spine is signed. The steel based scabbard shows more stamps and a proof at the ball. It is serialized. The steel crossguard is marked with N38815, (not matching the scabbard) and other stamps. The brass grip looks great! The press-catch locking mechanism continues to work well work. A fine example.
