Preußen - Heer Koppelschloß, pre-imperial war - introduced in 1870. It is constructed out of a two-piece die stamped brass/nickel-silver base that has been gold gilded/burnished. The obverse roundel depicts an imperial crown a smooth round background. The crown is above a half laurel leaf and berry wreath that is tied together at the bottom and is underneath the Heer motto reading: “Gott Mit Uns” (God with us). The wreath and motto are both in front of a decorative lined background which is encircled by two twisted ropes. The roundel lies on a smooth rectangular backing. The reverse shows four solder marks where the roundel is attached, a soldered on round wire catch and a brass/steel pin/post, sleeve and prongs assembly. The edges show stepped sides. It shows wear and dents. The buckle measures 2 1/2 inches wide by 1 15/16 inches tall. An early one!
