A prized example for a well heeled officer. A 1937 2nd Model Luftwaffe Dagger (Fliegerdolch) by Emil Voos of Solingen. The etched Emil Voos pattern blade on this one is gorgeous! The plated and frosted etch is crisp, correctly displaying the Luftwaffe eagle flanked by laurel leaves and an intricate vein/leaf motif. The details and edges are crisp as would be expected. The encircled snake and stump “Emil Voos Solingen” maker mark is beautifully executed. A nice mirror like finish to the plating. The blade on this one rates Exc++/NM. It shows minor oxidization spotting and surface scratches throughout. The tang is partly stripped and the threads are wrapped allowing the pommel to snug up. The blue pebbled leather buffer pad continues to remain intact. The scabbard is steel based and nickel-silver plated. It remains completely dent free. It depicts nice detail throughout with the burnished random pebbling, oak leaves and acorns. The reverse single throat retaining screw remains intact. The aluminum-alloy based burnished eagle crossguard has nice detail to the eagle’s head, feathers, wings and top side embossed oak leaves and acorns. The burnished steel ferrule depicts nice oak-leaves that pop right out at you. The aluminum-alloy pommel looks excellent with the centered mobile swastika encircled by oak leaves and acorns. The grip is bone, which would have been a special upgrade, just as the blade. It features pleasing striations and age toning throughout. It is wrapped in a double twist copper wire wrap. The bottom reverse of the wire ends at one strand entering the ferrule. The scabbard (bands), crossguard and pommel all match, showing minor oxidizing throughout and a pleasantly tones age patina. Most certainly this piece would have been for a well-heeled officer.
