The Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross 1939 was the highest award made by Nazi Germany to recognize extreme battlefield bravery or outstanding military leadership during World War II. Magnetic core, silver frame stamped “800” and “2” on reverse top arm; a textbook Juncker; type known amongst collectors as Lazy 2 version; measuring approximately 48.4mm x 48.1mm weighing 35.8g; suspension ring stamped “800”; original ribbon (50cm); in extremely fine condition. Issue case constructed of thick cardstock covered with a black leatherette paper; moderate scuffing to exterior; the interior of the lid with off-white and padded blended fabric; intact fabric hinge cover; base of case lined with black velvet separately fitted for the cross and ribbon; push button fully functional; external metal hinge fully functional; measuring approximately145.5mm x 78mm. Complete with Document of Expertise from Dietrich Maerz, author of “The Knights Cross of the Iron Cross”.
