A Wasserzollbeamte Schirmmütze Abzeichen. The eagle and wreath are constructed out of a die stamped zinc-alloy base that have been gold washed. The tri-piece cockade is constructed out of a die stamped aluminum alloy base that has been black painted/silver washed and has a red felt plug. The obverse features a sea customs eagle with outstretched wings clutching a wreathed mobile swastika in its talons above a customs wreath surrounding a national tri-color (red, white and black) cockade. The reverse’s both display a hollow unmarked back. The eagle, wreath and cockade retain all of their prongs. Nice gold wash remains. The eagle measures approximately 2 ¾ inches wide by 1 ¼ inches tall. The wreath measures 2 ½ inches wide by 1 7/8 inches tall. Anyone could say that the gilding was added post war to increase the value. A very rare set!
