Generalleutnant Paul Deichmann’s - Luftwaffe Stichdegen Modell 1938 für Generale. According to the documentation I have, including Deichmann, I am the 7th owner of this piece. Deichmann is a notable Knights Cross Winner. The blade is a 29 ½ inch long, single edged, single fullered, dual blued panelled with gold script that is triple etched. The blade reads: “In dankbarer Anerkennung”(obverse) / “Der Oberbefehlshaber der Luftwaffe Hermann Göring” (reverse) that is flanked by decorative floral etched designs. The spine is etched with a laurel leaf pattern. The reverse is maker marked: “Original Carl Eickhorn”. The original white leather buffer pad remains intact. The scabbard is black leather based with two decorative lines running through the length of it, to either side. The reverse is stitched together. It shows minor wear with only the odd scuff. To either end of the scabbard are gilded brass fitting secured with one staple to the back side of each. Underneath each staple it is stamped “96”. The fittings show only minor surface scratches. The scabbard sits securely up against the floral motif and hand enhanced gilded brass hilt. The dual piano hinged clamshell features a triple peened on silvered Luftwaffe eagle. The grip is trylon based that has aged a pleasant orange tone. It has a dual twisted brass wire wrap. Wrapped around the sword is a Prussian style portepee. The sword and knot comes housed in its original orange wool sword bag. The bag has a stitched on tag that reads: “21/3 366 To make moth proof: 1 uniform coat/tunic, pair of trousers and darning 1 sword bag.”. There is a small hole to the very bottom. Included with this is documentation from Tom Whittmann, Craig Gottlieb, two scans of period photos, listings, service information, professional photos of the sword etc. Also included is the book Deichmann authored: “Spearhead for Blizkrieg: Luftwaffe Operation in Support of the Army”. A gorgeous piece most aspire to attain.
