A Ehrenkreuz für Hinterbliebene Deutscher Spanienkämpfer (Spanienkreuz für Hinterbliebene). Introduced April 14th 1939, the Spanish Cross for Next of Kin (widow, oldest son or daughter, father, mother, brother, sister) was awarded to the next relatives of German Spian fighters who had died in captivity, were fatally injured or died as a result of their wounds. A total of 315 awards were presented. It is constructed out of a multi-piece die struck bronze base that has been bronze washed. The obverse features a pebbled Maltese style cross with four Luftwaffe eagles to each corner, that has an encircled (separately soldered on) mobile swastika to the center. The reverse features a plain full back. To the top is a soldered on loop and ring which is attached to a court/parade mount. The medal bar is constructed out of a die stamped alloy base and is covered to the obverse with the appropriate black, white, red and yellow rayon ribbon, and to the reverse with a red wool. The reverse also features a well working pin (bronze), hinge and catch assembly. It measures 41.2mm wide and 43.5mm tall. An extremely rare item
